Fall Adventures for 2025: My Top Picks

1. Multi Pitch Repel in Rock Canyon, Utah

Imagine this, it’s Sunday night and you have school the next day. You’re planning on going home so you can get some rest. Then BAM, Cam and Hannah invite you on a sick muli-pitch repel. You decide to stay another night in Utah and neglect all of your responsibilities.

2. 3-Day Middle Fork Trip, Idaho

Following along with the theme of crazy last second trips. My boss Justin invited me to come on a short Middle Fork rafting trip with his family and friends. If you decline a Middle Fork trip of any sort, you are stupid. I somehow acquired a dry suit and deployed myself to the middle of Stanley Idaho to start this adventure. The trip was super laid back and fun, I didn’t want to leave. The rafting was intense and tight with lots of obstacles to put my skills to the test.

3. Waterfall Hikes in Glacier, Montana

You don’t have to do this specific waterfall, but going to waterfalls in the fall months is an experience you will never forget. On this day it was cold and stormy but we pushed through and made some memories. I’d totally recommend finding a waterfall near you as it gets colder. Glacier just has a stupid amount of cool waterfalls.

4. Couch Surfing at St. Anthony Sand Dunes, Idaho

Have a good group of friends who are down to do some redneck activities and have a great time. Make sure to stay out of the way of the other dunes enthusiasts on various vehicles, picking a less busy day is ideal. A capable 4×4 vehicle is essential for getting around the dunes while towing a couch but you don’t need anything crazy. We picked up our couch from Facebook Marketplace for free and ended up jerry rigging it to perfection. After you destroy the couch, properly dispose of it at a local dump.

5. Fly Fish in Palisades Creek, Idaho

Bring warm clothes and waders. The views are stunning and there are lots of great areas to fish. There are also some lakes you can go to if you want to make this into a backpacking trip. The trail is very worn and easy to follow. The fishing seems to be better the earlier in the season you go.

6. Duck Hunting on the Snake River, Idaho

Duck hunting is definitely not for the faint of heart. Some of my best fall memories are calling in ducks with my dad and I would totally recommending dedicating a day or two to hanging out in a duck blind. For obvious reasons I will not drop the spot.

7. Climb Disappointment Peak in The Grand Tetons, Wyoming

This peak is definitely one of the easiest peaks to bag in the Grand Tetons, but the views are still amazing.  I would recommend bringing some good friends and lots of water. There is some slightly exposed scrambling at the bottom of the ascent but with some good beta anything is possible (hug the left). Do your research before going.

8. Whitewater Kayak the Alpine Section of the Snake, Wyoming

I suck at hard shell kayaking so this float got brought up a lot when I was looking for beginner river sections I could do without fearing for my life. The river is super relaxed and enjoyable for all skill levels of rafters and kayakers. The water level was very low when I did it which was just perfect for my skill level which is also really low.

9. Explore a Mineshaft with Homemade Torches in Challis, Idaho

I don’t fully recommend exploring with torches, maybe bring a headlamp instead for safety. There is a ton of mine shafts that aren’t blocked off and are unexplored in Challis, Idaho. If you are brave enough, exploring them is a great experience. If you are claustrophobic, maybe this isn’t for you. Just don’t get lost in the mineshaft, the consequences are high.

10. Rent Out the Indoor Surf Wave In Ogden, Utah

You have to watch the movie Surfs Up on the way down to Utah for the full immersive experience. This will turn you into a surf bum for the 2 hours that you will be on this wave. This is great for the whole family, because there are boogie boards for the youngins. Get together a sick group of friends and shred the gnar. The place is called Flow Rider Utah.
